A Large Zapotec Figural Urn, Circa 450-650 AD
A ceremonial urn depicting 'The God with the Bow in his headdress'. Large rosettes flank the sides of the bow on his headdress. He wears large ear spools, braided necklace and bows on his wrists which are placed atop his crossed legs as he sits. His face bears thick brows and the glyph C mouth with Jaguar teeth. Extensive red pigment remaining and abundant detail. Monte Alban culture. Probably a very large attendant diety and quite rare for its size and type. Dimensions: 36.8 x 34.3 x 29.2 cm. (14.5 x 13.5 x 11.5"). Condition: The top non-figural back of the urn missing with adjacent stable crack; the front with minor losses. Price US$1,750. Status: Available. Order #A022.
