An Ancient Iranian Torch Holder, Circa 1200 BC
This piece most likely comes from the ancient Luristan culture located in North Western Iran.
This piece is of an unusual thick walled form which appears to have been a torch holder. It is decorated with several registers of geometric forms and one of ibexes. In excellent condition with minor encrustation on base and shoulder. Height: 31.2 cm. (12.3"). Weight: 6 lb. Composition: Heavy hard fired terracotta with reddish paint. US$1,250. Status: Sold.
