A Fine Bronze Statuette of Bastet, Third Intermediate Period, 1069-702 BC.

Bastet was the lion headed goddess of fecundity and merriment, though she also had a protective aspect as shown in the current example. Originally portrayed as lion-headed, in later times she was often transformed into a mother cat with kittens.

The feet are missing otherwise this piece is in excellent condition with exceptional detail and modeling for a small bronze. Comes with a custom stand. Height: 9.2 cm. (3.62"). Weight: 103 gm. (3.68 oz.). Metal composition: Bronze with areas of hard green patina. References: Andrews, Amulets of Ancient Egypt, British Museum Press, 1994, pp. 32 & 41. See also Christie's London, Sept.
