A finely crafted hollow cast gold frog. Tairona culture, Columbia.
Another excellent example of the goldsmithing skills of the ancient South American cultures. Thousands and thousands of fine items of jewelry like this were melted down and shipped back to Spain by the Conquistadors. This gold ornament is in an excellent state of preservation and is wearable with care. It has been cast with a hollow tube to facilitate stringing on a necklace which may be used for suspension without damaging the piece. Dimensions: 19 x 21 x11 mm. (0.75 x 0.83 x 0.43").
