B3135. A FINE VALDIVIA 'VENUS' FIGURINE. Equador, ca. 3000 BC. The female figure with hands clasped at waist under her prominent breasts, large incised hairdo with diadem. The body rendered in burnished red. 2.4 inches. These rare artifacts are generally considered to be among the first figural representations of the New World. One of the best I've carried in style and completeness.



B3136. A LARGE CHORRERA ZOOMORPHIC BOWL, ca. 1800-300 BC. The bowl in the form of an upturned animal, perhaps an armadillo, whose head, tail and legs emerge from the rim. The interior of the bowl burnished red, the exterior surface, also burnished, is banded red and cream. 5 x 15 inches. Professional repair. Very rare.



B3137. A RARE CHORRERA ANTHROPOMORPHIC VESSEL, ca. 1800-300 BC. The vessel in the form of a three-legged animal with human head, a single strap handle from the head to the high spout, the body in red, ochre and cream with incised decoration. 9 x 10 inches. Repair, the small tail missing. Ex. Sotheby's Summer '99. Very rare.



B3138. A FINE CHAVIN STIRRUP SPOUT VESSEL. Peru, ca. 800-500 BC. The cylindrical vessel with four panels containing molded sea birds. 5.25 x 7.5 inches. Professional repair.



B3139. A CHOICE TUMACO-LA TOLITA JAGUAR SHAMAN, ca. 300 BC. The torso of a ferocious snarling jaguar but standing erect like a man with left paw outstretched, its long tongue protruding from the mouth. 2.75 x 3.5 inches. Superb style representing the finest in Tumaco-La Tolita art. It was believed that Shamans could transform themselves into jaguars. Would profit from a nice stand. Ex. old New York collection.

The torso of a ferocious snarling jaguar but standing erect like a man with its left paw across its chest, its long tongue hanging across the arm. 3.2 inches. B3151. A JAMACOQUE STANDING FEMALE, ca. 500 AD. The female nude except for a loincloth with hands turned outward at her hips. Traces of polychrome. 5.5 inches. Repair with gaps at back. On custom stand.



B3152. A FINE VICUS POLYCHROME VESSEL. Peru, ca. 100-500 AD. The vessel with the form of a squash or gourd with an animal's head bridged to an open spout. 5.3 x 7 x 7.25 inches. See 'Museums of the Andes' p. 31 for a somewhat similar vessel in the Amano Museum, Lima. Rare type.



B3153. A FINE MOCHE ANTHROPOMORPHIC VESSEL. Peru, ca. 200-700 AD. In the form of a figure seated on a stool gazing into the distance with left hand shading the eyes. The vessel with burnished red and cream surface, stirrup spout at rear. 4.5 x 6 x 8 inches. Choice condition.



B3154. A FINE MOCHE STIRRUP-SPOUT VESSEL. Peru, ca. 450-700 AD. The burnished blackware vessel in the form of a seated dignitary wearing high round cap with long lappets and sea lion protome, a small monkey holding on to the rear of the spout. 4.5 x 7 x 8.5 inches. Fine example. Excellent condition.



B3155. A FINE MOCHE STIRRUP-SPOUT VESSEL. Peru, ca. 450-700 AD. The burnished blackware vessel in the form of a squatting drummer wearing a flayed human skin over his face. 4 x 5 x 8 inches. See 'Museums of the Andes' p. 47 for a very similar vessel in the Amano Museum, Lima. Rare type. Excellent condition.



B3156. A FINE MOCHE IV CACIQUE ON THRONE. Peru, 400-700 AD. Lovely mold made vessel, the enthroned ruler wears a crown with feline center, large ear spools, ornate collar, wears a wrist guard on his left arm and holds a bird-headed scepter in his right. Burnished red and cream surface. 3.75 x 5.25 x 6 inches. Tiny nose chip otherwise excellent.



B3157. A FINE MOCHE SEA-LION VESSEL. Peru, ca. 200-700 AD. Seated female sea lion holding two pups. The vessel with burnished red surface with white details, stirrup spout at rear. 4.5 x 6 x 6 inches. A charming piece.



B3158. A MOCHE KERO IN THE FORM OF AN ARM. Peru, ca. 450-700 AD. The drinking cup in the form of a well modeled arm wearing a wrist guard and holding an uncertain object. 6.75 inches. Repair at wrist but still a fine example.



B3159. A FINE LAMBAYEQUE BRIDGE-SPOUT VESSEL. Peru, 700-900 AD. The burnished red and cream vessel of rectangular form with tall tapering cylindrical spout bridged to the figure of a rodent gnawing a maize ear. 4 x 6 x 7 inches. Charming.



B3160. A FINE LAMBAYEQUE DOUBLE CHAMBERED WHISTLING VESSEL. Peru, 700-900 AD. The burnished red, black and cream double vessel connected by bridge handle with spout on one side, twin toucans holding a human arm in their beaks on the other. 4 x 7 x 8.5 inches. Excellent example. Whistles when filled or air is blown into the spout.



B3161. A EXCEPTIONAL NARINO 'OCARINA', Capuli Complex, 850-1500 AD. In the form of a sea shell with molded saurian whose head emerges from the top and tail wraps around the point of the base as well as six monkeys forming an interlocking design covering the sides. 1.8 x 2.25 inches. Excellent condition. A rare piece of exceptional artistic merit.

B3174. A LARGE INCA AMPHORA. Peru, ca. 1400-1500 AD. The large ovoid vessel with a single strap handle, the neck with anthropomorphic features, a choice, charming small molded dog seated on the shoulder, the body painted in red with vertical bands of bird's heads, somewhat faded on the side without the dog. 8.5 x 14 inches. Small rim chip restored. Rare.



B3175. A NICARAGUAN COCOA POT, ca. 1st millennium AD. The small terracotta pot with incised designs. 1.25 x 2.75 inches. Very dense burnished grayware with the appearance of stone. Excellent condition. Ex. old New York collection. Better than image shows.



B3176. A FINE CHINESCO SEATED FIGURE. Nayarit, Mexico, ca. 300 AD. The small armed figure seated with spread legs in the form of nippled breasts. Burnished red and cream surface. 5 x 6.5 inches. Excellent condition. Free standing. Better than image shows, especially the face.



B3177. A FINE NAYARIT FEMALE. Mexico, ca. 300 AD. The high-status female standing with arms and legs spread, hands on hips in a pose that wonderfully evokes her powerful social position. She wears a wide loin-cloth, necklace, large ear-spools and diadem. 5.5 x 8 inches. Repaired at waist. Considerable polychrome remaining. Free standing. Excellent example.



B3178. A CHOICE MIXTEC CEREMONIAL BOWL OR CENSER. Mexico, ca. 800 AD. The handle in the form of a polychromed warrior priest with ornate headdress, necklace and spiked arm guards, the bowl with molded codice style head in relief. 9.5 inches. Professional repair but all original. A choice example of fine style with most of original color preserved. Rare.



B3179. A CHOICE MAYAN STONE AXE. Classic period ca. 650 AD. The heavy ceremonial axe carved of hard gray stone in the form of a stylized parrot, the socket drilled from both sides with ancient brown deposits inside, the heavy spike point tapering downward. 2.5 x 3.3 x 6.75 inches. Extremely rare. Choice example and condition.



B3180. A FINE MAYAN JADE AMULET, ca. 600-800 AD. The amulet carved in the form of a animal's head with long recurved viper-like fangs. 33 mm. Modern gold ring through the suspension hole. Rare this nice.
