6937. A CHOICE WARRING STATES BRONZE DING, 475-221BC. The extremely rare bronze tripod vessel with a band of molded ornamentation beneath the rim. 8x9.5". In excellent condition with light encrustation and very desirable. $8500 estimate.

6938. AN IMPORTANT GREY POTTERY FIGURE OF A HORSE. Han Dynasty, 207 BC - 220 AD. The massive horse powerfully modeled with erect posture. The rounded neck with hogged mane reaching up between the alert ears. The head strongly detailed with flared nostrils and open mouth revealing the teeth. 25x30", 40 lbs. Remains of white slip under ancient soil. Separately made head inserts into body. Han tomb figures of large size have been found in human figures, chicken, pigs and dogs but horses are very rare. A similar figure 37" high was sold by Sotheby's March '97 for $48,300. Both these pottery horses can be compared to an even larger bronze horse discovered in tomb #2 at Hejiashan, Jinyang in Sichuan.
