11533. MAYAN STONE BALLPLAYER'S YOKE. Mexico, Yucatan, c. 600-800 AD. The yoke of hard beige speckled stone with a darker band. These heavy stone yokes were worn ceremonially by Mayan ballplayers to demonstrate their prowess. 41 x 38 x 10 cm. The yoke in choice original condition with no repair or restoration. Provenance: An Italian collection acquired in the 1970s when the family was resident in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
