.......By following these simple rules you can find anything on our site. We list multiple items on each page. Consider this when searching since the search applies to the whole page, not individual items. The search will take you to the top of the page the matching item(s) are on. Scroll down the page to find the items, or use your browser's 'Search' or 'Edit > Find in Page' command. Techniques for advanced searches are given below.
.......You can also find items by clicking on our various Galleries where items are listed by category. Items in our Research Galleries are matched but are not for sale. To view only items for sale don't follow match URL's numbered /a51xxx.html or less except for /a46cg.html, /a46cg2.html, /a46cg3.html and /a46cg5.html which do list Greek coins for sale. These numbers are at the bottom of each search match in its URL.
Query Syntax Rules:
PicoSearching is intuitive and easy. PicoSearch supports quick simple searches as well as ANY/ALL/EXACT selections, +, -, and advanced Boolean expressions. How To Search: Type a search with the words that you are looking for in the entry box, then click [Search]. Full words must be used, PicoSearch does not match partial words.PicoSearch will retrieve the best documents that match the query by weighing all of the results. If all of the search words are found in a document, that document will be weighted appropriately higher than a document which contains only a couple of those words. PicoSearch uses an advanced match totalling algorithm; it weights all of the words that are searched so that you will get the best match for the information that you are seeking.Examples:
- Any Word:
- Just type one or more words to find any of the words. [ Search ANY ] is the default.
- Exact Phrase: "..."
- You can search for exact phrases by surrounding them in double quotes.
- Boolean Operators: + -
- Use + in front of each word or a quoted phrase that you require.
Use - in front of each word that you want to exclude.- Boolean Expressions: AND OR NOT ( )
- Use AND, OR, NOT, (, and ) to form a Boolean expression. AND requires, OR allows, NOT excludes.
Use double quotes to protect the words "and", "or", or "not" in a phrase.
Query Gets the documents with ring brooch 'ring' or 'brooch' or both "alexander the great" the phrase 'alexander the great' +claudius +denarius 'claudius' and 'denarius' +ring -gold 'ring' but not 'gold' +president -"United States" 'president' but not 'United States' (stock OR market) AND NOT president 'stock' or 'market', and without 'president'
The last two techniques don't work well on our site because we list multiple items on each page. Capitalization doesn't matter. The ranked results will come from a total match on the words and phrases which you supply, so try to think of several specific terms for your topic and spell them correctly. It may help to include important plurals and derived words too, like [address addresses contact contacting information] .
