3802. IONIA, EPHESOS, ca. 630-610 BC. Electrum fraction, 1.16 gm. Unpublished! Geometric style bee/Cruciform punchmark. EF. Excessively rare and totally unknown before a few were discovered along with the recent geometric hoard, this is now believed to be the earliest known coin of Ephesos, and one of the earliest of all coins. This example is one of the best among the approximately 10 known specimens. $3750 estimate.
