PUBLISHED IN 'THE GOLDEN ONE'

8367. PUBLISHED NAZCA VESSEL, c. 100-400 AD. The ribbed polychrome pot with 9 serpents or sea creatures on the ribs. 5.4". Stable age crack. Museum number in India ink on the bottom.

Provenance: Purchased by the present owner from a major New York City antiquities dealer in the 1990's. Independently documented 3rd-party proof this piece has been in the US since at least March 4, 2002 is available. This is several years prior to the effective date of the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) that restricts subsequent imports into the US.

Published in 'The Golden One, A Nazcan Glyph' by Clifford C. Richey, July 2011 where it is illustrated with the following commentary. "Here is an example of an actual earthen (clay) vessel used to, metaphorically, represent the earth and its subterranean waters. The Mouth of the vessel represents a water source. The long white Line represents the surface. The animals depicted on the vessel could be eels but it is more likely they represent Tadpoles due to their behavior of rising to the surface for air and then descending again in repeated cycles. This was used as a metaphor related to the cycles of Venus arising and descending in the east and west. The Tadpole represents a transformer or changeling due to its changing from a fish like creature to a Frog. The Body of the Tadpoles are in the Form of the sign for movement or motion. The Body is Double Lined (white and light brown) and within it are the dark location(al) signs that number nine for the nine dark locations or levels (stacked one above the other) of the underworld. The Head is a place sign and the Eyes are both Positional and Eye Imagery. It is noteworthy that the Mouth was made from signs (Concentric, location, Circles with a dark place sign) for a dark horizontal surface place. The Eyes are the same except for their Position where the Tapole's Eyes would be, except they have a Rectangular, vertical-dark-place as a pupil which represents The Eye(s) of the Sun (Venus) a dark vertical place. Venus is thus Positioned as, on the sides (of the vessel earth). The transforming ones (the spirits of the deceased) are moving downwards and upwards within the water of the underworld (inside the container that represents the earth). It should also be mentioned here that the Indented area between the Tadpoles is in the same Form as the Nose of the Nazca Face Imagery dealt with earlier. Because the vessel Imagery is not of a Face the sign is a directional Finger pointing here, Positional, on the sides (of the actual vessel), above. The sign is also Positioned between the Tadpole signs. In other words, the center. This identification of the center assists in determining the directions (left) east and (right) west . This Finger sign is also a compound of the Rectangular vertical-place sign and the "U" shaped turning signs which, in total, indicate a turning-place, above. The indentation itself effectively turns the area around the Tadpoles into raised Rectangular vertical-place signs. The Form of the space between the undulations of the Tadpole's Body and the raised Rectangles creates the Vertical Half Circle signs for, on the sides. The redundancy of the signs seems unnecessary to an English speaking read but probably relates to the organization of the original language used to organize the signs. Many native American languages are sensitive to and incorporate such things as size, position, and even textures into their word formation. We can now make comparisons between the messages of the golden plaque and this ceramic vessel. We note some of the same signs being used to create Imagery as well as the metaphor of a vessel representing the earth with the spirits of the deceased within its watery underworld."
