A VERY IMPOSING PIECE

8337. LARGE TONG CAMEL WITH MUSICIANS, China, Tong (Tang) Dynasty, 618-970 AD. The large ceramic two humped Bactrian camel carrying four finely detailed musicians and a driver. The camel stands with head raised, a large lozenge patterned riding blanket across its back. Height 19.5 inches. Very rare and in excellent intact condition with some ancient soil adhering, all original with no repair or restoration. Provenance: Currently part of an extensive North Eastern collection, acquired in the 1980's from the collection of a Manhattan entertainer.
